HUIA DAM WATERSHED THREATENED

In one of the most inaccessible part* of the Waitakere area, 40 men are battling on a mile front against a scrub blaze which constitutes a threat to the Huia Dam watershed, one of the sources of Auckland's water supply. Provided the wind does Pst JiW, it is expected that the fire wdl be stopped Before it reaches the catchment area, but a strong off-sea wind would make it virtually impossible to bring the fire under control before serious damage is done.
