TRAINING TO BEGIN NEXT MONTH ( | The first South Island draft of men for Japan Force, 2nd N.Z.E.F., will enter Burnham Military Camp for training early in March. Four medical boards will begin sittings in Christchurch this morning to - examine volunteers from the Canterbury area. Enlistments in the Southern Military District by late yesterday afternoon totalled 1347, of which 583 were received by Area 10, and 111 were from Burnham. As with earlier enlistments, it is expected at military district headquarters that these totals will include many men who for medical and other reasons will be ineligible for service in Japan. The proportion of officers in the South Island volunteers is smaller than that which is reported to be causing anxiety in the Northern Military District Of 1466 enlistments received from Europeans at Auckland, six were from officer J. The 1347 South Island enlistments ii elude six officers. The total number o' volunteers for the whole of New Zealand so far is about 3400. The training course which volunteers for the occupation force will be put through is not yet known in detail at Southern Military District Headquarters. It is known that both the Burnham and Papakura camps, and possibly the Army School, Trentham, will be used for training.
