Officers for J Force
Although units of the New Zealand J Force are expected to go into camp early next month, only nine officers, six European and three Maori, have volunteered from the Northern Military District for service. Of the six European officers only one has served overseas and is medically fit. The situation is causing anxiety at the district headquarters, which will have to find a fairly large proportion of the 200 officers required. Already 1466 European and 325 Maori other ranks have applied for service from the district, figures which, make the officer enlistments relatively insignificant.
