RUSSIAN TROOPS IN PERSIA
EVACUATION MOVES . REPORTED
LONDON, February 12. Reuter’s correspondent in Teheran quotes the “Journal de Teheran” as reporting that Russian troops at Miandoab, in Azerbaijan, 80 miles south of Tabriz, which is the centre of the home rule movement, are preparing to leave and are selling their stores. The correspondent adds that this is the first report that the Russians are preparing to evacuate Persian territory. The Moscow newspapers “Izvestia" and “Red Star” report the arrival cf a fresh contingent of British troops in Teheran. It is stated that the troops, who arrived on February 8, are billeted in several city hotels. The reports are published without comment.’
GREEK ELECTIONS
MISGIVINGS OF FORMER MINISTER (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) ATHENS, Feb. 12. “Unless the political situation in Greece radically changes‘the elections on March 31 will be a forgery of the expression of the popular will.” said the former Foreign Secretary (Mr Sofianopoulos), who now describes himself as the leader of the Republican Leftists.
“If the Government is unable-to restore order and equality, it must go to prevent serious internal and external complications,” he said.
