INDIAN FOOD CRISIS
gandhi Suggests NEW GOVERNMENT
DIFFICULTIES COULD BE OVERCOME (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) * LONDON, February 12. Mr Gandhi said to-day that he had ao vised the Viceroy (Lord Wavell) to lorm a new national government for India of elected, members of the Central Legislative Assembly, irrespective of party, to meet the food and clothing crisis, says the Bombay correspondent of the Associated Press. The suggestion was made in response to Lord Wavell’s appeal to Mr Gandhi for co-operation. Mr Gandhi said: “If the mercantile community and administration become honest, we Indians can just tide over our difficulties, even if no help comes from the outside world, which is itself groaning.” The president of the Congress Party (Dr. Maulana Azad) is going from Calcutta to Delhi to discuss the food situation with Lord Wavell.
