ADVERTISING ON TRAMWAY BUSES
SUPPORT FROM ARTISTS’ GUILD The opinion that advertisements on the Christchurch Tramway Board’s buses was not objectionable was expressed at a recent meeting of the Canterbury Sign writers’ and Poster Artists’ Guild. It was considered, how- ’ ever, that in the new form of advertising the board had made a mistake in allowing words to be painted directly on the sides of buses. Had tiie signs been done on panels in a manner to suit the outlines and shapes of the bodywork, a great amount of dignity would have been obtained, without the loss of any advertising value. The guild held that (he board should have sought the co-operation of sign artists in the city. Had this been done, they thought, many designs and ideas would have been offered, enabling the board to choose a scheme that appealed to the public, rather -than one which was considered objectionable-” » M—■
