INSPECTION BY AREA COMMANDER
HIGH SCHOOL BARRACKS WEEK CONCLUDED An inspection of the cadet corps, made yesterday by Colonel A. Bongard, 0.8. E., M.C., N.Z.S.C., Area Comms nder, Area 10, concluded a very successful barracks week at the Christchurch Boys’ High School. Colonel Bongard was accompanied in his inspection by Squadron Leader G- M. Fitzwater, Commanding Officer of the South Island Wing of the Air Training Corps, by his adjutant, Captain J. McMaster, and by the headmaster, Mr A. E. Caddick. MA. ~ After inspecting the battalion, which was under the command of Lieuten-ant-Colonel J. F. Moffatt, E.D., Colonel Bongard took the salute in a march past. Later he spoke briefly to the cadets and congratulated the senior boys on their marching and the juniors on their steadiness, which, when it was remembered that they had been at school only a week, reflected the value of their few days’ training. The necessity for discipline, which he defined as “an ingrained habit of cheerful obedience,” was stressed by Colonel Bongard. Taking part in the march past were two infantr” companies, a specialist company, the Air Training Corps, and the school band.
