MANY VISITORS IN CITY DOMINION TOURNAMENT OPENS TO-DAY Visiting bowlers from 22 centres in different parts of New Zealand will take part in the annual Dominion bowling tournament, which will open in Christchurch to-day. This will be the first occasion in which every centre in New Zealand has been represented, and visitors are present in Christchurch from Whangarei to Bluff. Accommodation in the city is at a premium, many of the bowlers having brought their, wives and families with them One city hotel has more than 100 bowlers on its register It was impossible to accommodate all the visitors at hotels, and many have been billeted with private families. Fifty-two greens in and near Christchurch will be during the opening rounds in the various sections of singles, pairs, and fours. Singles will be played | ©n the first and third days. By the end ©f the first day’s play, it is anticipated that about half of 832 entrants will be I eliminated, and at the end of the third} it is expected that about 24 contes-1 tants will remain. pairs competitions will be continued with a number of singles matches as players become available. Three hundred and seventy-two teamwill play two matches of 25 ends each, in four days in the fours competition. Postsection play will then be started, and as players become available the singles and pairs will be continued. In the past the touraament has generally been concluded Within a fortnight, but with the record entry this year it is expected that an extension of time may be necessary. Arrangements have been made to entertain women visitors. This morning they will be guests of the women’s committee

at morning tea and next week will be taken for a drive over the hills and will have afternoon tea at Motukarara. Badges will be issued to visiting women, to enable them to receive morning and afternoon tea at any green they visit during the tournament. It is expected that other entertainment, also, will be arranged. The tournament will be opened officially this morning by the Deputy-Mayor (Mr M. E. Lyons) and the president of the New Zealand Bowling Council (Mr A. Dickson).
