TRAMWAY DISPUTE IN WELLINGTON
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 6. After yesterday's tram strike, the normal service was resumed to-day, but, failing a settlement of their claims by noon on Thursday of next week, the men will strike again on Friday. December 14.
A conference of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union, now sitting in Wellington, passed a resolution congratulating the Tramway Employees' Union on its solidarity, tolerance, and restraint "We feel- that, should "further action be necessary, they have earned the support of every trade unionist in Wellington."
Petrol Shortage.—The petrol shortage has not been confined to belligerent countries. Mr N. S. Dolamore, speaking at' a meeting at Greymouth on the "Utilisation of Wood Waste," mentioned that in. Sweden, which he recently visited, nearly all cars were fitted with gas producers. All Army trucks were run on charcoal or wood blocks, and the Air Force very rarely flew because, of the fuel shortage. In some of the mills he visited water was being used as a lubricant instead of oil - •
