VICEREGAL
(P.A.). AUCKLAND, Dec. 6. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) left Auckland this afternoon
for Wellington. His Excellency will return to Auckland on Saturday morning.
Mr R. T. McMillan has been appointed chairman of directors of •United Wheatgrowers. in succession to Mr H. F. Nicoll, who has resigned after holding the office for about 12 years. Mr W. W. Mulholland was appointed deputy-chairman. Mr P. J. Jones, who has been chief bailiff at Christchurch since 1911, and maintenance officer for the last 23 years, will retire from the Public Service at the end of this month. Mr Jones joined the Justice Department 41 years ago.
Mr J. C. Pawson, for many years in the employ of the Union Steam Ship Company, which he rejoined after serving overseas as a captain in the 2nd N.Z.E.F., has resigned to become secretary ofStacey and Hawker, Ltd. The Union Company's staff this week entertained Mr Pawson, and the Christchurch manager (Mr P. L. Hodge) made a presentation. The appointments of Mr William Charles Smith to be Sea FisheriesLicensing Authority for a period of thrde years, and of Mr Maxwell Williamson Young to be his deputy for the same period, were gazetted last evening. Both appointments are made under the Fisheries Amendment Act of this year.—(P.A.)
Mr E. F. Chivers (Greymouch) has been unanimously selected by the Westland Electorate Committee of the New Zealand National Party as parliamentary candidate for the Westland electorate at the forthcoming elections.
