E.A.M. COALITION’S CLAIM
REACTIONARIES IN CONTROL <N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) - LONDON, Dec. 3. Members of the Greek E.A.M. Coalition delegation in London declared today that key posts in the Greek judicwry, police and armed forces are heid fay reactionary elements. They alleged that the British authorities had proposals by the Sofoulis Government tor the replacement of certain of those elements which were responsible for monarchist terrorism. The members of the delegation are i£ e .. A,M ‘ , secreta ry_ and Communist Paity member (Mr Demetrois Palsahdes) the industrialist (Mr Alcivladis Loulis), the former Liberal Senator (General Grigoriadis), the leading Gieek .Socialist (Professor Georgalas) and the journalist (Mr Nicos Carboums), all of whom fought with the ureek resistance movement in the mountains. They have come to London to make contact with officials and inform the British public of relations regarding the E.A.M. Coalition and the lssu ll f ® cm .B Greece. They hope to Mr Bovin and leading trade union-
The delegation said that the recent political change had been brought about by British intervention. The Greek people considered this British 2, .V? 1 ! ar l. important new start in British policy, correcting the initial unfortunate interference. The E.A.M. Coalition had offered Mr Sofoulis full support without claiming participation in the Government, providing that he proceeded firmly •with preparations for *^ e . e . elections, the principal prerequisites of which were a general amnesty for all political detainees both Greece and the Middle East, a purge of the armed forces, judiciary and police, and new voting lists drawn up fhe basis of the general census. . The delegation said that the prisons in Greece were still filled and arrests were continuing. The heads of the Allied* mission obserying the Greek general election, which will be held on March 31, stated that they were arranging for four teams of observers to visit all parts of Greece to procure information concerning the existing electoral registers and preparations being made for the conduct of the election. The mission intended to maintain a strictly Independent and neutral position. The World Trade Union Federation will send observers to supervise the election of the general governing committee for the Greek trade unions early in January and to advise on the reorganisation of the union movement.
