ADDINGTON POST OFFICE
* . CLOCK TOWER TO BE REMOVED Instructions for the removal of the Addington Post Office clock tower are now being issued, according to advice received by Mr J. T. Watts. M.P. for Kiccarton, from the Acting-Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones). The Minister stated that after careful consideration of a report by expert structural engineers and others, as well as taking into account representations made on behalf of Addington residents, the Government had, with great reluctance, decided that the tower could not be allowed to stand.
In conjunction with the removal of the tower and high parapets of the post office, added Mr Jones, opportunity would be taken to alter the lay-out of the accommodation to provide improved conditions for both the public and the staff.
