ST. BEDE’S V. ST. PATRICK’S (SILVERSTREAM)

Cricket games between St. Bede’s and St. Patrick's (Silverstreani), which were suspended 'during the war, were resumed yesterday at the St. Bede’s ground. Conditions were ideal and the wicket was easy. St. Bede’s won the toss, and sent St. Patrick’s in to bat. The scoring was slow, although the batsmen ran smartly between the wickets. Maher, one of the opening batsmen, stayed at the wicket for two hours and a half in making 22 Anderson made a bright 34, and a sßcthwlcket partnership between Herewini and Robinson added 70 runs. Costigan was the most successful bowler for St. Bede’s Stuart, one of the opening batsmen for St Bede’s, made 25 in quick time before being dismissed leg before wicket by Nl- “? ra - He hit one six and several fours. Six wickets had fallen for 80 runs when Tomasi and Costigan became associated, and this pair had added 39 runs when stumps were drawn. The St. Patrick’s fielding was excellent. McDonald, a slowmedium left-hand spin bowler, was the most successful with the ball, and the batsmen could not afford to take liberties with him.
