PETROL SUPPLIES
Sir,—l read with amazement the statement by the Minister of Supply that he had received information to the effect that there might be further need for the conservation of petrol. How can he reconcile this statement with the cabled news, as published in “The Press,” that petrol restrictions have been lifted in the United States and in Canada, and that the petrol ration had been increased in the United Kingdom by 25 per cent, all since V-J Day? I would also like to ask the Minister if conservation of petrol is so essential, how it is that employees of the Governmept Transport Department are allowed to use Government cars as a means of conveyance to and from their homes?— Yours, etc., INTERESTED. August 24, 1945. [This letter was referred to the Minister of Supply, but no reply has been received. —Ed., “The Press.”]
