JAPAN'S WAR POLICY

“NO CHANGE MADE” NEW YORK, July 29, There had been no change whatsoever in the Japanese Government’s fundamental war policy, said the Prime Minister (Suzuki) at a press conference. This has been reported by the Tokyo radio. Questioned on the bombing and shelling of the Japanese homeland, Suzuki laid: ‘‘l leave this with absolute confidence to our strategists.” He added that the Government would do its utmost to increase food production. The recent 10 per cent, ration cut in staple foods had been made to prepare the Japanese for a long war. Suzuki said that Japanese aircraft production so far had exceeded expectations. “We would have avoided causing much worry to various circles if the production quota had been completed earlier,' 1 he said. “However, with our underground plants there is no further need for concern.” In reply to a correspondent who told hinj that the Japanese people would like to see some action taken in retaliation for the bombing they had suffered, Suzuki said that the Naval Chiefs of Staff had decided on a plan of action. He asked the people to be patient a little longer. The Japanese Home Minister (Abe) has completed a tour of Nagoya. Kobe, and Osaka. He said that the people of central Honshu were determined to defend their land to the bitter end.
