Mr Makin’s announcement meanr that the Government has decided ' that 'returned soldier preference J* supreme over all other preference*.,including the. “last-to-come, flrst-to-go” rule of many Ain ions. Union officials said to-day that ijtt decision of the Cabinet sub-cdßsnut*. tee might precipitate a trade union, revolt. The attitude of officials is that, if a “work-for-all” policy was adopted* by the Government there would be tth need for soldiers’ preference.
