RETURNED SERVICES’ ASSOCIATION

About 100 calves were given by farmers in the Springston-Motukarara and the Tai Tapu districts, for returned servicemen settling on the land in the district. The calves have been collected, and are being grazed by members of the local farmers’ union. Advice of this was received by the executive committee of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association at a meeting last evening, in a letter from the Springston sub-branch of the association. The sub-branch asked that its boundaries should’ be altered to include Tai Tapu for the purpose of allocating the calves. It was decided that delegates of the sub-branches concerned should meet and mutually arrange the allocation. The committee decided that the quarterly conference of the association should be held on August 10. New members, totalling 103, were elected to the association. Messrs H. S. Stephens, P. H. Wood, and H. E. Batchelor were appointed delegates to a conference with the Christchurch Junior Chamber of Commerce and other organisations to consider rehabilitation training for servicemen in hospitals.
