ELECTION OF OFFICERS Although the season had not been good for horticulture, colouring of trees and plants had been excellent, said the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, who presided at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Horticultural Society last evening. Negotiations had been made for the purchase of a property of 46} perches on the corner of Gloucester street and Cambridge terrace, said Mr J. R. Ternplin, and at present the matter was in the hands of the Land Sales Committee. If the society was successful in obtaining the proper 'y, it would have a valuable asset, and in time there would be a building which would be a pride to the society and the city. Trophies and awards won in the home garden competition were presented by Sir Heaton Rhodes. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows;—patron, the Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall); prr dent, Sir Heaton Rhodes; vice-presidents, the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H.
