PAYMENT FOR HONEY
RETROSPECTIVE INCREASE FOR BEEKEEPERS 1 <PA) WELLINGTON, May 31. “Beekeepers who have forwarded their honey production to the Internal Marketing Division during the last two seasons will receive an increased payment of id per lb on supplies.” said the Hon. B. Roberts, Minister of Marketing, to-day. “A fortnight ago I made a special appeal to beekeepers to forward as much honey as possible to the Auckland branch of the Internal Marketing Division to meet a special request by Great Britain for 500 tons of honey, and I am advised that increased quantities are coming forward. For this response I thank the beekeepers concerned. “As I realised that beekeepers selling direct to the public were obtaining a financial advantage over suppliers to the division, it has been decided to make a retrospective additional payout of id per lb on supplies received by the division during the 1943-44 and 1944-45 seasons. As this payout will be met by the accumulated credit balance in the division’s honey account, it will mean neither a subsidy to producers nor an increase in the consumer price of honey,” the Minister concluded.
