FAMILY DAY
APPEAL FOR COLLECTORS “As a practical expression of their thanks for victory, we would ask the women of Christchurch to sacrifice two hours on Saturday, June 9, to collect for the Victory Loan,” said Mrs C. W. Barrell, president of the National Council of Women, whtyi she addressed a large gathering in the Civic Theatre yesterday, after the showing of the film, ‘The Battle of Britain,” sponsored by the women's committee of the victory War Loan. Mr J. L. Hay also appealed for collectors for this day, Which is to be Family Savings Day. Although the Civic Theatre was packed yesterday and large numbers bad to be turned away, not quite 100 persons volunteered, as a result of the appeal for collectors. Appeals for collectors have been made to the secondary schools and to the women's organisations of Christchurch, but up to the present time only 300 persons have expressed their willingness to assist. The women’s committee of the Victory War Loan believe that 1000 collectors are necessary.
