APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE
BOARD’S; DECISIONS The cases of three appellants whose military service had been adjourned sine die on the ground of conscience, were reviewed by the No. 10 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday. Phillip Samuel McLeod, a single man, aged 32 years, employed by Armstrong and Springhall. Ltd., said his views had changed and he was now prepared to undertake non-combatant service. The Arm appealed for permission to retain his services I Questioned by Mr G. M. Hall, a member of the board, the reservist said that one of the chief factors in his change of views was that he was working with people who took exception to his stand. The chairman of the board (Mr H, Edgar) asked whether the fact that the reservist was grade II and the Army was not likely to want him had caused him to change his mind. The reservist replied that there was a possibility of his being reboarded Grade I. The board decided to recommend the Army to have McLeod reboarded, and Armstrong and Springhalt's appeal will be adjourned until this has been done. A request by William H. Hebden, whose appeal on the ground of conscience was originally allowed in June, 1941, that his appeal be dismissed, was granted. Thomas W. Bout, whose appeal was also reviewed, appeared in Army uniform. The appeal was dismissed, subject to service being restricted to non-combatant duty. An appeal by Ronald W. Hobbs, on the ground of conscientious objection was allowed. Other Appeals Decisions on other appeals were given as follows:—J. W. Edgar, C. E. Nanklvell, E. J. Owen, N. H. Rudkin, and N. E.
