SOCIAL SECURITY AMENDMENTS
FORECAST MADE BY MR P. HACKETT, M.P. “The Press” Special Service OPOTIKI. April 20. The transfer of the national security tax to the social security tax was predicted by Mr f. Hackett, Labour member of Parliament for Grey Lynn, at a public meeting at Opotiki, He added that amendments to the Social Security Act would probably increase the expenditure under it to £31,000,000 a year. Some of Die suggested amendments outlined by M r Hackett were: a minimum family income; increased age benefits: revision of the family allowance, with probably the payment of 5s a week to those outside the existing benefits, irrespective of income; ■ and an allowance pf £1 a week to every mother.
