CROP INSURANCE FOR TOBACCO
—♦— GOVERNMENT HELP FOR FIVE YEARS •‘fhe Cabinet has recently decided to assist the tobacco growing industry to establish an insurance fund from which compensation oan be paid to growers whose crops become damaged by hail, frpst, and flood," said the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Industries and Commerce, yesterday, He said the Government would guarantee any deficiency in the amount of the fund for five years after its establishment. The limit of the Government’s liability in each of the first five years would be the difference between the amount of the fund at the beginning of each growing season and £IO,OOO. The guarantee was granted subject to the Tobacco Board being willing to set aside £2500 from Its accumulated fund and to increase levies qn tobacco growers to provide a further amount of not less than £ISOO a year to assist in building up the fund. The board had already taken these steps.
