WAIMAIRI POWER BOARD
ONE MEETING MUST BE HELD Advice that the recently-elected Waimairi Electric Power Board must .meet at least once, was given to members in a letter by the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) on Saturday morning. Mr Semple said that he had ascertained the legal position and found that if members, intended to keep their election pledge to “commit suicide” by “washing out" the board, they must first hold a formal meeting, in accordance with a notice which would be gazetted shortly, calling the first meeting. The proclamation setting up the'board could be revoked only by legislation, and the board would have to take steps to have such a measure placed before Parliament if it continued in its purpose.
