RUSSIAN ADVANCE IN HUNGARY
RED AIR FORCE RAID ON BUDAPEST (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 28. A Soviet communique says that the Russians west of Satu Mare have fought their way into more than 40 Hungarian localities. They have repelled attacks from large forces of German infantry and tanks at NyiregyThe German commentator (von Hammer) claims that the Germans have recaptured Nyiregyhaza. Red Air Force long-range bombers on Thursda/ made a mass raid on Budapest and set fire to military and industrial objectives, causing a number of heavy explosions. Hitler, according to the Official German News Agency, has sent a message to the Hungarian Prime Minitter (Szalasi) saying’ “I am convinced we will master the situation in spite of all temporary set-backs. Germany will not abandon Hungary.”
