CONTROL OF BUILDERS’ MATERIALS
Sir,-The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer should be advised that in Christchurch a by-law has been passed, compelling the use of sarking with a flbrolite roof, owing to the ease with which workmen can fall through it. The housing problem will rehiain with us for a long time under the conditions imposed upon the private builders, by manpower and material control, coupled with the Government’s policy of State ownership of land and property.— Yours etc. October 20, 1944. L. HOLLINGS. Sir,—The attitude of the builders in regard to roofing is quite amusing. They want galvanised iron to be released, knowing that the chance of. importing more is as unlikely as Santa Claus. Cr. Glue, if he took the trouble to look round, would find asbestos roofing which was fixed 25 years ago. This should convince him of its durability. Of course, if green timber is placed under asbestos—and I understand it not uncommonly may be complications; but it will not be the fault' of asbestos.—Yours, etc., October 21, 1944, AUSSIE.
