SHOPPING IN WAR TIME
INFORMATION FOR CONSUMERS A new publication entitled “Consumer News,’’ has been issued by the Economic Information Service, Wellington. The pamphlet states that its purpose is to give consumers generally, and housewives in particular, information which will help, them in their daily shopping. “In this war, almost all governments have accepted the responsibility of seeing that all families are able to get the necessaries to life,” states the pamphlet. “To that end an elaborate machinery of controls has been built up to ensure that these necessaries are sold at prices within the reach of all, and also to ensure that, where there is a shortage of some essential commodity/ it is shared out evenly. This new awareness of the importance of the consumer is a benefit which is likely to carry over from the war. By taking trouble to understand controls and the reasons for them, you protect yourself and help the Government to protect you.”
