Titnaru Rail-car.—Because of the difficulty in obtaining spare parts for rail-cars from overseas, it would not be possible to extend the running of vehicles by providing a second car on the TimaruChristchurch run on Monday mornings, said the Minister of Railways (the Hon. R. Semple), in reply to a question asked by Mr Clyde Carr (Government, TimaVu), in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Semple added that in addition it would be necessary to run a rail-car empty from Christchurch to provide a second car, and in view of the difficulty in servicing vehicles that was not warranted.—
The output of Coal from open-cast mines has reached 720 tons a day, and production to date has been more than 45,000 tons... Another 220,000 tons has been stripped and made ready for loading, These figures were given by the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P, C. Webb) in reply to a question in the House of Representatives yesterday. He said bad weather had delayed operations in some districts, but a great amount of preparatory work had been done.—(l’.O.p.R.)
