SUPPLIES FOR WARSAW

ALLIED PLANES FLY FROM ENGLAND “GREAT RELIEF TO CITY” (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Sept 19. “One of the largest Allied battle air forces ever to land in the Soviet Union yesterday dropped arms munitions, and medical supplies to tne Polish patriots in Warsaw,” says a Moscow message. “The American pilots declared that the city was covered by a heavy smoke pall.” . _ . United States Headquarters in Britain has announced that Allied flgnters, supported by bombers, went over the Warsaw area and across the Russian lines. Two heavy bombers and two escorting Mustangs are missing and four enemy fighters were destroyed. The flight from England to Russia was very successful, and the losses small considering adverse weather over part of the route. Hone of the aeroplanes laden with supplies for Warsaw carried bombs. A message addressed to Mr Churchill, Mr Roosevelt, and Mr Stalin, by the Council of National Unity in Warsaw, has been received by the Polish Prime Minister (Mr Mikolajczyk). The message says that on the forty-fifth day of the struggle of the people of Warsaw for the freedom of their capital and Poland the patriots were witnessing the first signs of Allied assistance in the form of air cover and the dropping of arms and food. This help has brought great relief to Warsaw. The message also reaffirms the unbreakable will of the people of Warsaw and of Poland to fight the Germans for the freedom and independence of their country, and it appeals for continued support by the Allies in the provision of arms, munitions, and air cover._
