AIR BASES IN CHINA ABANDONED

CHUNGKING, Sept. 17. "With the exception of one landing strip, all the air bases round Kweilin have been abandoned, the runways blasted, and installations demolished,’ says the correspondent of the Associated Press at the headquarters of the United States 14th Air Force in China. "All the American personnel, including nurses, hospital cases, equipment, and stores, have been transferred to bases to the south and east, from which bombers and fighters are continuing operations. . . “These bases, built by coolie labour two years ago. were used by the famous ‘Flying Tiger’ squadron. Stores that could not be removed were burned, and 1000 bombs were exploded on the runways."
