THE RELAXED BLACK-OUT
FLYING BOMB ALERT ON FIRST NIGHT (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 18. Londoners who were taking advantage of the relaxed black-out regulations, operating for the first time yesterday, had to replace their opaque curtains hastily when the London area had an alert soon after darkness fell. Two flying bombs which crossed the east coast dropped in southern England. The all-clear sounded a few minutes later. Crowds gathered in Leicester, Newcastle, Birmingham, and other cities to see the modified lighting turned on. Many young children who had never seen street lights were brought out for the occasion.
