BOYCOTT ON LETTUCE
Sir,—On the behalf of the Chinese gardeners, I wish to say that we all agree with “Why Not’s” suggestion to form companies to open shops in various parts of the city to dispose of produce. The other alternative is to run door-to-door sales. By one of these methods consumers may receive vegetables at very much lower prices, since they would eliminate the high profits of fruiterers. We have concluded that it is simple for growers not to accept the 3d a case when selling lettuce, but when one calculates the enormous earnings of fruiterers one will realise that it is only fair that fruiterers should pay for cases.— Yours, etc., T CHINESE GARDENER, June 7, 1944.
