WORKING AND FIGHTING

Sir,—lt is amazing to read of strikes and labour troubles when so many of our men are fighting 24 hours a day in terrible conditions for a mere pittance in foreign countries. A man from the Bth Army recently wrote to me about wharf troubles and said, “It’s about time that some of the wharfles were sent here to unload explosives in the rain, with dive-bombers coming over in waves, for 7s 6d a day—and 16 hours a day at times.” An airman in India, who never had a vote, writes: “How about sending some of the strikers over here? It’s a great country for hard work and no pay.”—Yours, etc., SOLDIER’S OPINION. January 7, 1944.
