RAIN AT GREYMOUTH AND WESTPORT
SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT IN WATER SUPPLY
Heavy rain set in at Greymouth about 4 o’clock on Friday afternoon and up to 9 a.m., on Saturday a total of 2.78 inches had been recorded, the heaviest fall in one day for many months. The weather cleared early on Saturday morning, though it remained overcast The heavy rain did not have any appreciable effect on the run in the Grey river.
Welcome rain fell at Westport on Friday afternoon and continued throughout the night and early hours of Saturday morning. Residents on the outskirts of the town, who rely on rain water for domestic purposes, were out of water, and county council workmen were engaged at the time in pumping water into their tanks. The amount of rain which fell will alleviate the position slightly, and gardens will benefit by the fall.
