REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES SCHEME FOR SIX MATCHES PROPOSED A comprehensive scheme for the playing cf representative matches between Auckland. Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago, at Christchurch and Wellington between December 25 and January 3,. was proposed by Mr W. A. Hadlee at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association last evening. After discussing the scheme the committee decided to place it before . the Auckland, Wellington, and Otago Associations. Mr Hadlee suggested that on December 25. 27, and 28 Otago should play Canterbury at Christchurch, and Auckland play Wellington at Wellington. On December 30 and 31 Auckland should play Otago at Christchurch, and on Decembei 29 and 30 Wellington should play Canterbury at Wellington. Matches on January 1 and 3 would be Auckland v. Canterbury at Christchurch, and Wellington v. Otago at Wellington, Mr Hadlee said that the scheme would involve a minimum of travelling time. Previously when the Otago and Auckland teams had travelled south or north they had returned by January 10. In these times he did not think employers would be willing to give leave to players so soon after the holiday period. If all the teams were billeted there would probably be a surplus of £IOO to £l5O to divide among the major associations. The committee decided that if the scheme fell through arrangements should be made for three-day matches with Otago and Wellington at Christmas and New Year respectively. The committee decided to invite Otago to send a Brabin Shield team to Christchurch at the New Year if it desired, or else play at Dunedin, Messrs G. A, Bull and I. Willoughby were appointed as selectors of the Canterbury team, Mr W. Aitken, of the Suburban Cricket Association addressed the committee on a scheme to adjust the starting dates of summer and wintei sports. He said that it was suggested that winter sports should continue two weeks longer and summer sports a corresponding period, It was proposed to arrange a conference of all sports bodies concerned. The committee approved of the election ot Mi J S Forrester as a life member of the Umpires’ Association in recognition of his services as an umpire and official for many years.
