BIGGER STATION AT WOOLSTON
HEAVIER RAIL TRAFFIC EXPECTED
Extended station accommodation at Woolston will shortly be provided by the Railway Department to meet increased traffic brought about by industrial expansion in the area. This information has been conveyed to Mr T. H. McCombs, member of Parliament for Lyttelton, by the Minister of Railways (the Hon. R, Semple). ‘ On December 8 I advised you of the rearrangement scheme that the Railway Department is putting in hand at Woolston, and since then it has come under notice that a further industrial expansion will take place in the locality in the near future,” Mr Semple writes.
“In view of the anticipated increase in passenger traffic at Woolston as a result of the establishment of further industries. I have concluded that while effecting the alteration? that have already been approved, it would be advisable to provide a larger passenger platform involving more veranda cover and also a larger station building than that which was first planned.”
