* RECEIPTS AND EXPENSES REVIEWED

During the test five months receipts from the reclamation of waste have amounted to £ll9B 14s 9d. it was reported to members of the Canterbury Reclamation Board at a meeting yesterday. Expenses amounted to £550 2s, which left a surplus of £648. For the same period last year the receipts were £IBB2 and expenses £758. leaving a surplus of £1124. A new drive for used rubber tyres has been launched by the board. The Controller of Salvage (Mr J. R. Lymburn), on a recent visit to Christchurch, had said that the stocks at Woolston had been depleted, and he considered that there were still thousands of ton of used tyres in the South Island An appeal had been launched immediately throughout the metropolitan and country areas. The results of the first week of the new paper collection system, by which the City Council collected paper from the business area in the course of its usual refuse collection, had not. been very good, it was stated. It was hoped that better results would be obtained when more people became aware of the service. There was still a great demand for packing and wrapping papers, and the paper depot had been unable to secure sufficient stocks to meet the demand. In the waste drive to be held on October 2. bottles will be included.
