An Improved Pacer Black Label, winner of the Wilford Memorial Handicap at Wellington on Saturday, is an aged gelding by Man p War— Franzie Pointer, and is trained at Epsom by L. N. Vemall for Mr J. R. Henderson. Black Label previously raced in the interests of Mrs E. Gilman, of Christchurch, and since going to Auckland he has won three races. Sports Guide, who finished second in the Wilford Memorial and the Wellington Handicaps, appears to be the unlucky horse racing to-day, for he has now run second five times in succession. He is also one of the most- consistent for in his last 13 starts he has won three races, has been second six times, and third twice. Three-year-olds

Scottish Emperor’s win in the Wellington Stakes opens up a fresh interest m the New Zealand Derby, to be decided at Addington in November, for this is the second time he has beaten the favourite, Acropolis. His previous success wa= in the Juvenile Stakes at Oamaru, in which he recorded 2mln 48 l-ssec for a mile and a quarter. Acropolis has been consistent, for in six starts he has won two races, has been second three times, and third once. After his win in the Sapling Stakes and his sterling race with Scottish Emperor on Saturday, he is likely to retain his favouritism for the Derby.

Roydon Lodge Successes G. B. Noble, private trainer to Mr J. R. McKenzie, at Roydon Lodge, scored three wins for his patron at Trentham on Saturday with May Scott, Scottish Emperor,' and Light Brigade. The last-named is an American stallion by Volomite from Spinster, while May Scott is a four-year-old filly by U. Scott—May Chenault. and Scottish Emperor is by U. Scott from Princess Napoleon. A Good Share

The investments on the Selma totalled £3432 10s, and those on the Rakaia Trot £4498 10s, making a contribution of £7931 to the day’s pool of £26,616. Two Good Performances

The four-year-old filly Believe Me registered two fine performances at Trentham on Saturday, gaining a first and a third. Under R. Townley’s care the filly looks like developing into a good stake winner. ...... Sure Lady, who finished third in the Sharpe Handicap at Trentham, was also seen to advantage in the Taita Handicap, in which she beat a useful field. Three Wins

G. B. Noble won the Sharpe Handicap with May Scott, the Wellington Stakes with Scottish Emperor, and the Railway Handicap with the American-bred pacer. Light Brigade—three good wins in the day’s campaign at Trentham. An Easy Winner The Auckland-owned and trained Black Label • easily defeated six others in the Sir Thomas Wilford Handicap at Trentharri. The favourite, Sports Guide, had every chance, but the best he could do was to finish second. He filled a similar place in the Wellington Handicap, second to Follow Me.

A Surprise Win David Derby, an aged pacer by Nelson Derby from Queen’s Own, had a surprise win Jn the Belmont Handicap, paying more than halLa century. The pacer registered his first win since being trained in the North Jsland.
