CONGRATULATIONS TO MR CHURCHILL

SURRENDER (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) , L 9£P or i-n e V-'-In a message to Mr Churchill, King George of Greece said: “Please accept my sincerest congratulations on the occasion of Italy’s unconditional surrender to the Allies. The men who fought the Italians in Albania, those still resisting in Greece, my forces in the Middle East, and the whole Greek people realise to-day with pride and joy that the hour of final victory is in sight.” The Prime Minister of Greece (Mr E. L. Tsouderos) said: “On this day, when the sinister career of Italy has come to an end under the victorious advance of the valiant British and American forces, please allow me to express to your excellency and to all the British nations engaged in this great struggle, our admiration and gratitude. May God continue His blessings on the armies of liberation, and on their noble leaders.” The Belgian Prime Minister (M. Herbert Pierlot) expressed thanks for the British Prime Minister’s “brilliant and wise leadership in the conduct of the war under the most difficult circumstances. I wish on this great occasion to convey to your excellency my heartiest congratulations, and those of the Belgian Government,”
Wounded Leave Italy by Air.—ln the first evacuation of sick and wounded by air from Italy about 30 men were flown to Sicily by an air ambulance unit of the Royal Australian Air Force.—London, September 12.
