CLAIMS ON PALESTINE HOPE FOR NATIONAL HOME “The tragedy of the Jewish people calls for immediate help as well as for a constructive post-war policy,” says Dr. Michael Traub, a member of the Administrative Council of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, in a statement which he has prepared for “The Press.’’ Dr. Traub reviews the achievements of Jewish colonisation in Palestine and the contribution of Palestine Jews to the cause of the,' United Nations in war. He continues: “Those Jews who will be alive when the day of victory comes will be economically ruined and physically broken. For the homeless majority only a Jewish national home can offer asylum. The last 26 years of Jewish colonisation have proved that Palestine’s absorptive capacity can be considerably enlarged. There is room in Palestine enough for Jews and Arabs. The present population is 1,500,000 Jews and Arabs; three or four million more Jews could be settled, 11 they were granted the right to apply their will and their pioneering abilities in colonising the country on a sound and modern basis. ‘The achievement of this goal depends on the abolition of the White Paper 0f~T939. Under the terms of this document Jewish immigration to Palestine was limited to 75,000 during the following five years, ana is to cease completely on April 1,1944. "The Jewish people expect restoration of the spirit of the Balfour Declaration, paving a way to a just solution of the problem of Jewish homelessness and enabling the speedy de. velopment of Arab countries adjacent to the Jewish national home. The 1 Jewish people ask that Palestine after the war be established as a Jewish commonwealth within the framework of the British Commonwealth of Nations. It is in that country where the people of Israel, reunited with the land of Israel will once again become the worthy bearer of those morel ideals which the Jewish people gave to humanity 3000 years ago.’ .
