SOLDIER CHARGED WITH DESERTION
A member of the 2nd N.Z.E.F., Private Robert Hastings Ireland, appeared before a court-martial at Burnham yesterday on a charge of desertion in that he absented himself without leave from July 20 to July 29, when he returned to camp. Ireland pleaded not guilty to the charge. The finding of the courtmartial will be forwarded to the convening officer. , . ■ Major P. Blank was president of the court-martial, and the members were Major M. A. Nightingale and Captain C. R. Harris. The prosecuting officer was Captain B. Y. Baxter, and the defending officer was Captain I. A. Wood. Major J. D. Hutchison was judge advocate.
