The First Telephone Advertisement “What is believed to be the first telephone advertisement ever published. appeared in 1877.” says "Katipo,” the official organ of the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Employees’ Asso elation and Officers’ Guild "The advertisement was worded as follows: “The proprietors of the Telephone, the invention of Alexander Graham Bell are now nrenared to furnish telepnones for the transmission of articulate speech through instruments not more than 20 miles apart. Conversation can be easily carried on after slight practice. and with the occasional repetition of a word or sentence On first listening to the telephone, though the . hound' is perfectly audible, the articulation seems to be indistinct, but after a few' trials the ear becomes accustomed to the peculiar sound, and finds little difficulty in understanding the words."
