PRIMARY PRODUCTION

Sir,—Last week I paid a visit to parts of the Rangiora district, and found_that much cultivation remains to be done. Unless tractor drivers are made available, crops will not be got in. In norma] times farmers have no difficulty in arranging their programmes, but now they want a lead as to what is most required. There should be the widest possible publicity, but instead of that, the Production Councils are not allowed to say anything. The Minister will have to take the blame for the failure of production, but rumour, is that he is not entirely to blame as it is stated that those* who should give him sound advice are falling down on the job. The position is very serious and immediate action is necessary if production is to be maintained.—Yours, etc ' PRODUCTION. August 9, 1943.
