SLAUGHTERING OF PIGS
REPORT ON .METHODS PROPOSED A report on allegedly antiquated slaughtering methods used for pigs in certain Canterbury factories is to be obtained for the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon.. J. G. Barclay) at the request of the Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The Minister gave this information in a reply to representations by the council of the society, which was received at the monthly meeting this week. The inspector’s report'disclosed that several cases of alleged' cruelty had been investigated and two persons had been cautioned.. A very bad case of cruelty to a dog some months ago at Papanui was discussed. It was stated that the case was in the hands of the police and the society’s officers.
