WHITE HERONS
Sir, —Lately we have seen reports of the appearance of the white herons in southern parts. Residents of Hokitika, and more especially Revell street north, were very delighted on Sunday morning to welcome back their white heron after an absence of more than two years. The bird is quite tame and is fed by a well-known resident on raw meat. It is a beautiful bird, graceful in its movements and certainly fascinating to those not used to seeing it. I only wish some order-in-council could be gazetted to keep the gulls from worrying it,—Yours, etc., WHITE HERON'S FEATHER. May 13, 1943.
