CORRECT DRAPING OF FLAGS

Sir,—ln a report in “The Press” of Tuesday, May 11, about a meeting of returned servicemen at Rangiora Mr A. W. Ball and Mr J. W. Macleod were stated to have said that it was customary to drape the White Ensign to the right and the Union Jack to the left. Both the gentlemen mentioned are definitely wrong. As the Jack is our national flag, in all decoration schemes it should always receive the place of honour, viz., the right. When'national flags are carried on parade the Union Jack should claim and be given the place of honour on the right. When the Union Jack is displayed with another flag against a wall with crossed staffs the Jack should be on the right and its staff should be in front of its accompanying flagstaff.—Yours, etc., HALLIARD.
