HELP FOR PEOPLE OF BRITAIN
SL'GGKSTI 1> OFFER BV NEW ZEALAND fP.S.S.) DUNEDIN. May 13. A proposal that New Zealand should otter a portion of the total value of its exports for a period after the war for the purpose of rehabilitating the people of Great Britain was marie by Mr James Begg at the annual meeting of the Dunedin West branch of the National Party. The suggestion was made after a report had been received on the main features of the policy to be placed before the electors at the forthcoming General Election. Mr Begg expressed the opinion that the policy, while dealing fairly fully with Dominion matters, took no account of the sacrifices and suffering borne by the people of the British Isles. He contended that it was largely through these sacrifices that this country enjoyed immunity from similar experiences. He felt it was the duty of the Dominion to make some recognition of this. Unanimous approval of Mr Begg's proposal was expressed by the meeting, which decided that it should be forwarded to Dominion headquarters for consideration.
