BEAUTIFYING WORK AT KAIAPOI

PARK TO BE RESTORED A plan for the beautifying of the surroundings of the council administrative block, and for extensions to the buildings themselves, has been drawn up by the Kaiapoi Borough Council. The whole area of the council yard is to be tar-sealed, and provision has been made for grass plots and trees. A women’s rest room, with a grasslined approach from the main street, is included in the plan. Work has already begun on the building of an extension to the borough electrical store and workshop and the building of a blacksmith shop, and a sewerage main pumping station is also contemplated. It has been estimated that the work will take at least two years to complete. Trousselot Park, Kaiapoi, which has been in an untidy state since the shifting of the northern river stopbank, has been redesigned, and the services of a landscape architect have been retained to carry 'out the work of restoring it. Large areas of lawn, flanked on the river side by native shrubs, and on the street frontage by flowering shrubs, have been planned, and a new band rotunda will be erected.
