LETTERS TO WAR PRISONERS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 8. • The Prisoners of War Inquiry Headquarters has received cabled advice to the effect that communications for airmen prisoners of war interned in Oflag XXIB should be addressed to Stalag Luft 3, which is a censoring place. This does not apply to parcels, which should still be addressed Oflag XXIB. A cable message has been received that a letter dated February, from Captain Louis Hill, from Camp 47, Italy, gave the names of some 200 New Zealand officers, and stated that many New Zealand letters had been arriving within five or six weeks from the time of their dispatch from New Zealand, and also that a large number ot next-of-kin parcels -had arrived, the time of transit varying greatly. The clothing situation was good, the bulk of supplies of boots, uniforms, etc., from the Red Cross having been distributed.

Prisoners in Germany are allowed to receive individually-addressed book parcels up to 111b in weight. These parcels must consist of books only and have no relation to next-of-kin quarterly parcels. Arrangements have been made whereby packing depots will be supplied with stocks of chewing gum, sufficient to allow the inclusion of at ' least nine small »packels each, in the next parcels as a gift from patriotic funds.
