DEGREES CONFERRED GRADUATES OF CANTERBURY COLLEGE A message from the Chancellor of the University of New Zealand (the Hon. J. A. Hanan) congratulating graduates and exhorting them to accept full responsibility for the maintenance of a great heritage, was read by the Pro-Chancellor (Dr. James Hight) at the capping ceremony at Canterbury University College yesterday afternoon. Dr, Hight himself emphasised the special responsibilities of trained personnel in the great tasks of reconstruction. Check-up.—Auxiliary police and wardens of (he Emergency Precautions Services in the East Christchurch district, will, on Monday evening next, undertake a check-up of every dwelling and property in their area, The chock-up is being made to bring up to date E.P.S. information concerning danger points, suitable sites for petrol clumps, and to list people who would require assistance in the event of an emergency. An effort will also be made to list every dwelling equipped with a telephone, and to find persons who would be of assistance to the E.P.R.
